Hello Springdell Friends, Sarah and Jess here, bringing you pickup #2 of the 2016 Winter CSA.  Let’s take a look at what we have to work with…

  • 2 “grab bag” dairy and drink items (Jess got half & half and egg nog, Sarah got half & half and apple cider)
  • 2 “regularly scheduled” milk orders from Highlawn Farms (Jess got heavy cream and a skim milk, Sarah got lowfat milk and chocolate milk)
  • brussels sprouts
  • celery
  • lettuce
  • spinach
  • 2 “grab bag” Springdell meat products (Jess got ground beef and hot Italian sausage, Sarah got breakfast sausage and top round beef)
  • Westfield Farms Goat Cheese of various flavors
  • Muddy Waters Fair Trade Coffee
  • fresh eggs
  • onions
  • potatoes
  • sweet potatoes (Jess only)
  • rutabaga (Jess only)
  • purple potatoes (Sarah only)
  • tomatoes (Sarah only)
  • mushrooms (Sarah only)
  • acorn squash
  • purple cabbage
  • apples
  • garlic

These shares were heavy and as you can see FULL of great items.  For those of you joining the CSA for the first time (and a reminder to other share holders), you may be wondering why there are items above that say “Jess only” or “Sarah only”?  Well, this is the fun of a CSA! CSA shares are full of what is fresh, grown at Springdell, or other local farms.  The quantities and items tend to vary from share box to share box.  So while Jess is enjoying her rutabaga, I may be enjoying my mushrooms.  Never fear shareholders, farmer Jamie and her staff keep track of items and costs and make sure that it all evens out in the end. Jess and I look forward to the variation in the shares, its fun to talk about how we used our items and share recipes with all of you guys here at CSA365.

We look forward to a fun week ahead, there is plenty to cook up and enjoy!
