The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #9

Hi everyone, Jess here with apologies that this post is going out so late in the day. It was a zany day involving zoo animals, unsteady octogenarians, ambulances and other unexpected surprises… Luckily, everyone involved is relatively ok, and I was able to get to the farm before closing time to pick up my share. Unfortunately, another surprise awaited me at the farmstand, my share was already long gone! My CSA tag was in the middle of the bucket of removed CSA tags, confirming that accidentally or purposefully, someone had taken my share box. I’m hoping that it was an accidental thing.  Farmer Jamie and crew scrambled to help piece together something, but it made us realize that perhaps it’s a good time for a reminder.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure that the CSA box that you take is your CSA box and not someone else’s.  Springdell Farm is not a supermarket with a never-ending stockroom of extra produce at the ready.  If you take a share box, or from a share box, that is not your own, it is stealing.

I am hoping that this week’s “show” is true to form.   Let’s take a look!

  • butter & sugar corn
  • zucchini squash
  • crookneck summer squash
  • heirloom tomatillo
  • super sweet 100s cherry tomatoes
  • 2 boxes squished peaches
  • field onions
  • green beans
  • salad cukes
  • collard greens
  • Genovese basil
  • kale
  • carrot and tops

  • nectarines
  • early Mac apples

  • micro radishes
  • small popcorn shoots

I look forward to trying new things this week!  Hope you do too!  Meanwhile, I leave you with a few pics from the farm.

Fresh peaches.  You don’t get much better than that!

Look at all that freshly dug garlic!  So yummy!

Tonight we had a meatless Monday pizza along with collard greens pressure cooked with browned bacon in unfiltered apple cider.  The twist on this dish is scrumptious!

For dessert we had some Tully Farms Dairy vanilla ice cream. This ice cream consisted of milk, cream, sugar, eggs and pure vanilla, as it should be!  This is good stuff, everyone!  Pick some up from the farm stand today!

I hope you don’t mind if I cut this one short, it’s been quite a day and I’m nodding off as I type this. I’ll be back tomorrow with some more ideas!  Feel free to share your ideas as well.  Until tomorrow sweet and savory dreams!
