The “Show” – Springdell Winter CSA Pickup #4

Hi everyone, Jess here with the next installment of the Springdell Show and Tell!  Today I’m happy to report that waiting a couple of extra hours for the pickup to begin allowed the temperatures to come to a point where the produce was happy, as well as our slightly warmer farm family.

Let’s take a look at the share box for both Group A and Group B for this pickup!

Did you get cube steak in your share this week as well?  If so, perhaps try this recipe, as it was definitely a winner around these parts!

I have a few ideas in embryo for this week, I received a heavy Dutch Oven for Christmas so I anticipate using that, perhaps with the parsnips and beef stew. Sarah had posted this recipe a while back and I may try an adaptation of it as it looked really good.  We’ll see.  Meanwhile, I’m finally making use of the oxtail in my freezer to make a Pho broth as these sprouts would like a nice home. I feel like I’ve been talking about it forever… If you prefer a veggie broth, it’s a fine time to take those scraps you’ve been saving out of the freezer and pop them in the slow cooker! Pho is a wonderful way to enjoy this produce during the arctic chill!

Remember to return your CSA crates, milk bottles and egg cartons at each pickup!  If you’re like me and forget from time to time, the best option may be to just leave the empties in the back of your car so they’ll be with you the next time you go to the farm stand. If you’ve forgotten for more than one week, it’s better to show up with a few extra bottles and cartons than not at all. Please help your farm family keep our eggs housed happily in cartons, and help to avoid any collective bottle surcharges that could eventually effect our honor system return policy! (I really like the honor system, don’t you?)

As Farmer Jamie prepares to hunker down and do some nesting before her new arrival arrives, I’ll be checking in here and there real-time on Facebook and adding some new recipes on this site as I make them.  Meanwhile, we have a full month between now and our next “Show” of the Springdell Show and Tell, so please don’t be a stranger!  As you have ideas that would be beneficial to share with your fellow farm family, please feel free to add them to the comments, or stop by the Facebook page.  Do you have a question about anything in your share box? Head over to our home page and click “Get in Touch!” and I’ll do my best to help answer any questions that you may have.

With the new year approaching, now is the time to sign up to keep the party going! If you’re interested in joining or continuing a CSA with Springdell, now is the time to enroll in your Produce Share, Meat Share, Dell Dollar Membership, U-Pick Flower Share and more. Email Farmer Jamie for an application, whether renewing or taking the first-time plunge.

If our paths don’t cross before then, have a Happy New Year, and I’ll see you in 2018 another 365 days of fun-filled culinary adventure!
