The “Show” – Springdell Spring CSA Pickup #5

Hi everyone, Jess here!  It’s coming, people!  The Springdell Summer CSA starts Monday! Meanwhile while picking up my final Spring CSA crate, I bumped into this lovely farm family!

Little Briar looked right at home getting ready to plant beets with his mama. This is the life! Meanwhile, let’s take a peek at our goodies for this week!

  • Strawberries!
  • Head Lettuce
  • Pea Tendrils from Johnny Putt Farm, Littleton, MA
  • Kale

This week, you won’t see much from me for two reasons:

First, half of the CSA has already been consumed by my children. The box of strawberries almost didn’t make it home. This pic shows that half of the berries were gone before we had even left the farmstand! Half of the kale and pea tendrils are already missing as well.

Secondly, this Saturday is the Strawberry Festival, and there is much I need to do to prepare, so here’s what I humbly suggest for enjoying this week’s CSA:

  • Grab a second quart of strawberries from the stand, as the first one will simply need to be consumed as-is.  There is no choice in the matter.  You’ll have one berry and want to devour the whole box.  Why fight it?
  • Make a simple salad with the second quart of berries, the sweet new kale, the tendrils and tender lettuce.  Maybe a honey lime vinaigrette? You could do a Strawberry Vinaigrette, but for now I suggest keeping it simple, as the season’s debut ingredients speak for themselves!

Hope to see you Saturday, meanwhile we’ll see you on Facebook, and back here for the “Tell” of the week.  Enjoy this absolutely beautiful time of year!
