The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #14

Hi everyone, Jess here to check in about the 14th show of the Springdell Summer CSA season’s “Show and Tell“. The bounty is getting bigger and heavier as the season goes on.
Yes, those are apples and squashes starting to come into the picture with more frequency. Fall is on it’s way, everyone!  Let’s chat a little more about what’s going on in the share and at the ‘Dell.

Small shares had corn, cabbage, buttercup and spaghetti squash, heirloom mini kohlrabi, apples, sugar beets, carrots, radish and lettuce. Single shares had butter and sugar corn, acorn squash, cabbage, a baking potato, cortland apples, shallots and lettuce.

The Lisanthus, Cosmos and Gladiolas have been chopped down and are giving way to the Zinnias and lovely Sunflowers!

I have utterly enjoyed the Pick-Your-Own flower share this year!  It was so cool to bring home a little vase of sunshine each week, and the cathartic walk through the PYO field has such a healing vibe in itself.

And how cool is Briar’s sunflower patch? If you haven’t yet, next time you’re at the stand, just go and be there. It’s good for the soul.

Calling all creative folks!  If you haven’t heard, Springdell is having a Scarecrow Decorating contest in the ‘Dell! Mark the dates- Friday September 28 (4-dusk), Saturday, September 29(8-6), and Sunday September 30 (9-3), you can come to the farm with your recycled clothes and other scarecrow decor (Springdell will provide the hay) and make your best scarecrow.  Prizes include a 100 dollar gift card to the ‘Dell, a family grill package, or a full 2019 Summer CSA!

While bringing your scarecrow to life, bring along a picnic lunch or cup of coffee to enjoy! Be sure to stop by the farmstand to inquire about the official rules of the contest, as there are some important ones.

I look forward to checking in with you this week!  Meanwhile, sweet and savory dreams!
