The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA Final Pickup

Hi everyone, Jess here.  Can you believe it’s the last pickup of the season? It’s been a fun ride, I hope you’ve enjoyed it, too!  If you have any feedback on more ways that this blog can be helpful to you, please get in touch with me and let me know! It’s my mission to let no veggie go unloved, and however I can help, I’d like to! Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the last bounty of the season!

  • Peppers (a “take what you’d like” situation!)

I’m pretty excited about the way things went this year with the CSA. This model is just such an awesome way to support local farmers, and it is always interesting on the consumer end, too!  Let’s take this example.

Two years ago, our shares were inundated with many squash varieties. such as the beloved Delicata.

The lovely bounty felt endless, and at the end of the summer season, several crates of CSA squash were in my cold storage to last well into the winter.

However, there were not nearly as many peppers! I mean, look at these! From one year to the next, it all works out somehow. I guess my point is, with the CSA, you can’t predict what’s coming your way as easy as when going to a supermarket. However, this keeps it interesting and allows for some adventure in the kitchen!  So sliver up those peppers and taste test those recipes. If pickling isn’t your thing, did I mention the stuffed pepper soup?

It also seemed like a good time to revisit some halloween ideas.  Apple Shrunken Heads, anyone?

How about rainbow carrot witches fingers coming out of your hummus?

Hope you all have a great Halloween, everyone!  Keep those ideas and feedback coming, and see you back here soon for this week’s “Tell” of the Springdell Show and Tell!
