The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #18

Hello everyone, Jess here. I’m home with sick children today, so I may be thawing that chicken stock and using that celery sooner than I expected! We’ll see how the week goes.

Meanwhile, we snuck out for some fresh air long enough to hit the farm. Let’s take a look at this week’s CSA pickup!

Small Shares received Bell Peppers, Onions, Banana Peppers, a Broccoli Crown, Hot Peppers, Baby Brussels Sprouts, Celery, Carrots and Gala Apples.  Single Shares received Gala Apples, a Broccoli Crown, Cabbage, Bell Peppers, a Banana Pepper, an Onion, a Hot Pepper, Carrots, and Celery.

  • Broccoli (some Super Greens folks got spinach)

The sunflowers are starting to look a little sad that the chilly weather is coming.

But the Winterbor and Purple Kale is standing strong!

I found a couple of shaggy mane mushrooms on the path as well, just enough to fry up in some butter.

The Halloween Bash in the ‘Dell is coming up this Saturday at 3pm. It’s always fun, complete with kids activities, pony rides, BBQ, a petting zoo, a bonfire, contests, and just a general good time. Feel free to check in for more details!

I just noticed the Veggiescope writeups have gone missing!  When you click on “Veggiescope”, it usually takes you to a description of each veggie, followed by the recipes we’ve tested for that veggie.  Right now, the descriptions are missing for some reason! I’m working on fixing that, but meanwhile if you have any questions about a veggie in your CSA, please feel free to contact me, I’m happy to forward you the details about how to use certain apple varieties, preserving that celery, kohlrabi, or whatever CSA item may be stumping you!

My casserole, stir-fry and other culinary plans are giving way to soups and cold storage, have been thwarted by colds and sore throats, but that doesn’t have to stop you!  Roast up that broccoli, melt a simple cheese sauce, stuff those peppers, and enjoy! Perhaps it doesn’t have to stop me, either. I have a great recipe for stuffed pepper soup around here somewhere… See you back here soon!
