The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #3

Hi everyone, Jess here with the 3rd week of the CSA! You may have noticed that I’m posting a day later than usual, and it’s because I am actually typing in a camper in the middle of a Connecticut at the moment. With the holiday week and my being away for my regularly scheduled pickup day, I chose the “Sunday Opt-In” option that Springdell offers for CSA’ers when they can’t make their pickup day. Because I was away on my Monday pickup day (7/1), I can “Opt-In” to the Sunday before (6/30) or after (7/7) my regularly scheduled pickup day. This “Opt-In” is available to any Springdell CSA’er, just give Farmer Jamie a heads up if you’d like to opt into a Sunday this summer.

Because the farm week goes Monday-Sunday, and I “Opted In” to the Sunday before my regular pickup, my CSA crate was a week-2 crate instead of a week 3 crate. Hence, you’ll notice a couple of repeats in the CSA crate I’m presenting to you tonight, along with a couple of other little differences.

Small Shares received similar veggies minus the Scallions. Single Shares received Strawberries, Snow Peas, Dino Kale, Garlic Scapes and Lettuce.

Sounds like with week 3, some of you may see some cucumbers, and perhaps some kohlrabi making an appearance!

Campstove pancakes with eggs and strawberries are the best! Muddy Water Buzzkill decaf sealed the deal!
We picked up our CSA on Sunday right before leaving with our camper to head south. While at the campground, I whipped up this super green salad with kale, chard, and collard greens! For those that aren’t a fan of kale but want to eat it, mixing the greens this way helps with getting some kale into your belly!

I hear that some of you are having a bit of a rough time with Kale! Please know that you’re not alone, there are quite a few folks that are a bit leery of kale, but it is so good for you! There is hope, you will find your kale dish! Please click on the Veggiescope link to Kale for some kale ideas. You can also check out the CSA365 Facebook page this week, where I’ll highlight my favorite kale recipes (for a family of non-kale believers)!

See you back here soon for the “Tell”, and on Facebook throughout the week. Meanwhile, thanks for reading, and sweet and savory dreams to you!
