I used to panic when I’d see a full “swap box”, because I thought it meant that I wasn’t doing my job, that my farm family was returning all the veggies they didn’t like. I eventually realized that Farmer Jamie would pop some of the “B” grade and/or day-old veggies in the swap box at the beginning of the day (and believe me, what Jamie considers B grade looks perfectly A grade in my book!) Remember that you need not swap out a veggie to access the swap box, so if you just want an extra pepper for that special recipe, or are loving the abundance of zucchini, help yourself!

Remember that the “volunteer” sunflower patch is open to CSA members this week. It’s hard to believe that these seeds just re-seeded themselves!

You need not belong to the flower share to pick from this field at the moment, so please feel free to help yourself, make a nice little bouquet before this field gets re-planted!

There are a lot of fun things going on at the farm this week! First, a reminder that if you’re into the Spring “Jump Start” CSA next year (the one that transitions you from the winter into the summer CSA), the sign-up deadline is August 1st for this CSA, so stop by the farmstand for your paperwork today.

Springdell Family Night is happening this Saturday the 27th from 6-9pm. Bring your own dinner and any beverages that you’d like, and hang out with your farm family! Story Time (1pm) and Feeding Hour (4pm) are coming up this Thursday. Stop by and spend some quality time at the farm.

The farm has started carrying some new Earth materials, such as crushed stone and mulch, so if you have any home projects coming up, check out the selection at the farm stand!

I made a change to Zucchini Lasagna that I’ll be writing into my former recipe. Instead of salting and draining the zucchini, I roasted it on parchment before adding it to the lasagna. This really made the zucchini pop, and cut down on the amount of liquid.

I’m looking forward to cooking up more of these goodies with you this week! Until next time, thank you for reading as always, and sweet and savory dreams to you…

Hi……… I have been coming to Springdell Farm forever, i just love all the vegies, fruit, eggs and the meat…. absolutely delicious. Your farm is an ‘awesome’ family farm, everyone enjoys stopping by and always being greeted with a big smile……….. and your Tuesday ‘special bag fill’ is wonderful and is enjoyed by all. The people that work for you are so helpful and friendly — your receipes add a special touch – no other farm stands take an extra moment of friendleness with the customers like yours. fondly, anne
