Honorable Mentions – Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #19 1

Hello Everyone!  Jess and Sarah here, and we just noticed that yesterday marked our 300th daily post in a row here at CSA365, only 65 days to go before the end of a full year of eating from share boxes!  What’s next for 2016?  We are discussing that now and can promise you that many good things await!

In the meantime, back to our kitchens.  First let’s start with Jess.

I’ve been reminiscing about these rainbow carrots from the share box a year or two ago – they made such great witches’ fingers!  The fingernails were almond slices and the homemade hummus was so creamy.

image

Today, I honey roasted my witches fingers instead.

While we’re playing with our food, here is a spinach and broccoli pizza my three year-old made for dinner the other night.

Here is the work of my five year-old.

I popped a few cranberries in a pan with a tiny bit of water and cooked them until they popped. I rolled them in some honey, then served them with wilted spinach drizzled in balsamic glaze. Tart and tangy in all the right places!

I’m holding on to summer as much as possible, pictured here are sweet Springdell pickles, pickled radishes, and the last of the pickled watermelon rind. Yum!

Moving over to Sarah’s kitchen here is what’s been cooking:

A quick side of broccoli with some parmesean cheese was fought over at the dinner table. I just love that my kids make deals with each other about who gets the last of the broccoli.

My smoothie of the week was really good, it’s too bad it looks like a cup of pea soup! I doesn’t really matter I guess when it is packed with so much goodness. I used beet greens, 2 frozen bananas, frozen melon cubes (which include mint and lime zest), a scoop of protein powder, and a splash of flax milk.

I sautéed up some thinly sliced leeks to add to my sandwiches tonight for dinner.

Check out this sandwich, yes, this grilled cheese rocked! I put tater tots into my waffle maker to make the “bread”, I added two slices of mozzarella cheese and a scoop full of leeks to each sandwich. Yum, yum, yummy.

So many exciting things going on in the ‘Dell this week! Farmer Jamie is off in Kentucky this week promoting the American Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher Committee at the National Future Farmer of America Conference.  Jonathan and Samuel will be headed back home for the winter, and many of the farm stand folks will be finishing up for the year.  As we prepare to pick up our last share box of the summer season, we are most grateful to those who have kept our families so well fed.  Many thanks and looking forward to many seasons to come!

Ladies, I have really enjoyed (faithfully) reading this Daily 365CSA Post. It is so nice to get locally happy (and nutritious) E-mail each day. I have used many of the Recipes, sometimes slightly adapting them to my Family’s Tastes, and filed many of them away for future use. Please know that I appreciate all the cooking (and planning) that goes into these Posts! I picked up my Spring, and Summer, CSA Shares on Monday’s and when I would look at my Share I would wonder aloud about how I planned on cooking (and eating) all the ingredients. I also wondered how you all would use the ingredients, too. It is amazing how many times we were on the same Veggie Cooking Wave Length! Bring on the lovely Winter CSA Share, but not the cold New England weather!!
