The “Show” – Springdell Winter CSA Pickup #3

Hi everyone, Jess here with the third CSA pickup of the winter season! I have a few reminders below, including the storage of your veggies and what to do if you can’t make your pickup date!

I also stopped by the Jordan Brothers seafood truck for some goodies.

I’m so looking forward to the goat cheese this week.  I ordered a chocolate (a delicious option for my non-goat cheese family members), a fiery fig (can’t wait to try this one) and a blue cheese (I accidentally ended up with a blueberry lemon… If I got your cheese by mistake please feel free to let me know and we can trade, otherwise this is going on some breakfast bagels!)

A quick reminder as the winter holidays and vacations approach: If you are a Winter CSA member, you can move between Group A and Group B pickups if needed! For example, if you are in group A and going to miss CSA pickup #6 on February 2, you can move to Group B for pickup #6 on February 9th. This is a good way to not miss out on a pickups if you’re away for the weekend. Unfortunately, Winter CSA pickups can not be changed until the end of the season, as it would be far too much to track (think of coordinating all those custom orders), but hopefully this provides a convenient option. If you have any questions, please contact Farmer Jamie or feel free to check in here, I’m happy to help!

I’m posting the schedule of CSA pickups on the front page of this website under “Events”, so check back here anytime you aren’t sure of your pickup date, or if you have to switch between groups.

For those storing the beets, carrots and parsnips, Farmer Jamie reminds us that a good way to preserve your root veggies is to give them a good rinse and pat dry when you get them home.  Toss them in a ziploc bag in the fridge, and this will help to avoid the wilty wobbly veggies. Separate greens from the veggies right away too (such as with the radishes). If the bite of a radish is too much, you can cut them and leave them soaking in water in the fridge for a few days, and this will reduce the bite while keeping the veggies crisp.

That’s about it for today, I look forward to cooking with you this week! Until tomorrow, sweet and savory dreams!
