The Springdell Show and Tell – Winter CSA Pickup #5

Hi everyone, Jess here to present the 5th CSA pickup of the winter season! I hope you are enjoying the winter so far, as well as all these lovely goodies!

  • Mushrooms(From Western, MA – I’m thinking a stroganoff this week!)
  • Rainbow Carrots(Store like the beets – I’m reading that a limp carrot can be revived by cutting off the top and setting the cut end into ice water for a spell? I have yet to try this, but if you do, we’d love to hear the verdict!)
  • Onions (Store away from the potatoes- with the other bulbs is ok, in cool dry place)
  • Beets (Rinse and store in a bag in the fridge with a little moisture in it)
  • Potatoes (Store in a cool dry place, away from the bulbs)
  • Shallots (Store away from the potatoes- with the other bulbs is ok, in cool dry place)
  • Spinach(Store in the fridge)
  • Parsley(Snip stems and strip the low leaves off , so only the bare stems will be immersed when you put them in a glass of water. Keep on a cool area, like a wintry windowsill, and change the water often)
  • Lettuce(remove from core, rinse and put in a damp bag)
  • Sweet Potato – (Store with the potatoes)
  • Garlic(Store with other bulbs)
  • Tully Farms Milk – (I received a cream and whole milk)
  • Pork – (I received bacon and Hot Italian Sausage)
  • Eggs(Fridgebound)
  • Tomatoes– (From Backyard Farms, Maine)
Holy Beet! Can’t wait to roast this baby up!
My little one accompanied me to the farmstand for this pickup, so I should have known he’d want to bring home his favorite strawberry milk!
The boys had a scout meeting today that revolved around healthy eating. What a great time to break out the carrots and leafy greens! Here’s a veggie platter in progress.
A quick reminder here to mark your calendars for May 1st 2020! If you are enjoying the winter CSA (or didn’t sign up and wish that you had), May 1st will be the day that the Winter CSA enrollment begins. Meanwhile, the 2020 summer CSA sign ups are happening now!
The summer CSA is such a great way to enjoy the bounty of delicious fruits, veggies, flowers, herbs, and just about everything that summer on a farm has to offer. Whether feeding an army or just yourself, there are CSA options that fit just about every lifestyle and budget. To get started, email Jamie at springdellfarms.com and request the summer CSA “packet”. Give yourself and your family the gift of healthy food!

That’s about it on this end! I’m going through a slow cooking phase at the moment, so I’ll probably be posting a few “slow and low” meals this week. If you have any questions, and are looking for little extra motivation regarding a particular veggie, simply reach out and I’ll be happy to share some ideas, I’m here to help! Thanks for reading, and see you back here for the next addition of the Springdell Show and Tell!
