Hi everyone, Jess here. This week’s is going to be a quickie as promised, most of our CSA pickup was consumed on day 1, and the Strawberry Festival consumed the rest of the week!

- Enjoyed as-is (My youngest ate all of the pea tendrils. There’s a video of him on the CSA365 facebook site jamming them in his face. I can’t complain…)

I made a quick Kale Caesar Salad and accidentally used way too much dressing. Thankfully, the kale holds up well. I went to the garden and grabbed some extra kale to mix in the next day. Problem solved!
This weekend was the 43rd annual Westford Strawberries ‘N Arts Festival, and we had some beautiful strawberries for the shortcake, about 20 quarts of which I picked myself!
My minivan was full of beautiful berries, signifying not only strawberry season, but also that the Summer CSA is about to start!
Many volunteers get together the morning of the festival to wash and hull the berries, whip the cream, and make the lemonade.
Once the berries are hulled, the smaller volunteers visit the antique berry masher and take turns cranking the handle to mash the berries.
More than 1200 servings of fresh shortcake are served on the Westford Town Common each festival. Entertainment, a grill, a raffle and bake table, and over 90 artisan booths make for a fun day!
Unfortunately I was so busy at the festival that I didn’t get to make it over to Springdell’s booth, but I hear they sold mass quantities of luscious strawberries! Perhaps we’ll see you at next year’s festival? Mark your calendars for June 15, 2019, the festival is always the day before Father’s Day and proceeds go to a good cause!
