If you have all of these items in your kitchen, you can make ANY CSA RECIPE listed on this site when you have the accompanying CSA ingredients. Just keep these staples in stock to then have hundreds of CSA recipe options available to you!

NUTS

  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Peanuts
  • Pine nuts (great for pestos)

BAKING

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Bittersweet/Unsweetened Chocolate
  • Cocoa Powder, Regular and Dutch Process (if only getting one kind, Dutch Process works best for most recipes here)
  • Corn Starch and/or Potato Starch
  • Old Fashioned Oats
  • Puff Pastry (frozen to thaw as needed)
  • Sugar – Coarse, Brown Sugar, Powdered Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Yeast (for breads and rolls)

OILS AND VINEGARS, SAUCES AND SPICES

  • Adobo Seasoning
  • Allspice
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Bay Leaves
  • Caraway Seeds
  • Cardamom
  • Cayenne Pepper

  • Celery Salt (Jess makes her own- Vitamixing kosher salt and celery seed)

  • Mustard (many recipes call for Dry Mustard but we have found substitutions of regular mustard work in the CSA365 recipes also- if recipe uses whole grain or other specialty mustard we will specify.  Jess keeps only Dijon Mustard on-hand and gets away with it)

  • Paprika
  • Peppercorns (for Fresh Ground Pepper or to keep whole)
  • Salt (we recommend Kosher Salt)

Staple Ingredients that you can purchase OR make at home using CSA/Farmstand/Garden Ingredients- (Many of these can be sealed in mason jars and shelved or refrigerated, or made fresh and frozen into small cubes to thaw and use as needed.)

Specialty items (not necessarily needed as a staple unless you’d like to try these recipes- which of course we recommend that you do!)

  • Rice Paper, Rice Vermicelli (for summer/winter CSA rolls)
  • Nori, Sushi Rice (for CSA sushi- maki rolls)
  • Fish Sauce (can be substituted with soy sauce in many recipes as needed, good in pad Thai sauces)
  • Fennel Seeds (for Sarah’s Quick Red Sauce)
  • Flour Tortillas (preferably whole wheat, great for Wraps Burritos or Quesadillas)
  • Gochujang (for Bibimbap, available at Asian markets)
  • Graham Crackers (used in Sarah’s Chocolate Orange Pie)
  • Rice Noodles (for Pho and Pad Thai)
  • Stout (if making Irish Beef Stew)
  • Tamarind Paste/Nectar (available at asian markets, great for pad Thai dishes)
  • Vegan Oyster Sauce (available at Asian markets-beware of “oyster flavored sauce”, riddled with corn syrup solids and MSG)
