The “Show” – Springdell Summer CSA pickup #5


Hello all!  The fields got some much needed rain and our plants are happy for it.  You can tell we are in July with the large basket at pickup time, yummy!  We look forward to transforming this bounty into delicious foods this week and we hope you will join us!  We always love to know what you are doing with your veggies too!  Let’s take a look at what we picked up today:

  • 12 ears of butter & sugar corn
  • 2 slicing cucumbers
  • 2 squash bombs (aka eight ball squash)
  • 5 zucchini squash
  • 5 summer squash
  • 1 bag of wax beans
  • 3 salt and pepper cucumbers
  • 1 purple kohlrabi
  • 1 bunch of Genovese basil
  • 2 heads of lettuce
  • 1 bunch of Lacinato kale
  • 1 bunch of fennel fronds

  • 1 heirloom collard greens
  • 1 head of green cabbage
  • 1 bunch of winter kale

  • 2 raspberries

The Flower Share has started!  Above is a picture of this weeks flowers, already brightening Sarah’s kitchen island.

Jess picked up a few stems of gladiolas (Farmer Jamie’s specialty), which seem to be made for her dining room!

Today was Sarah’s month for pickup of the meat subscription.  She will be sure to let you know how these little white packages are turned into delicious meals!

Jess is already cooking up a batch of collard green noodles, run through the angel hair attachment of her pasta maker. Recipes to follow soon!

The fennel fronds are great as an aromatic for fresh seafood, add flavor to a salad, and also make a wonderful tea!

If anyone is around on Thursday, there’s an open house at the Westford Community Garden on Graniteville Road on Thursday from 4-6pm.  Come tour the 150 garden plots and enjoy some treats and performances!
