Apple Fruit Leather

I was exploring Pinterest today (a dangerous time suck) and I found a recipe for applesauce fruit leather.  I had to give it a try, it looked so fun!  We had so many fabulous apples this fall that I made a ton of applesauce, and now to put it to good use.

It can be as simple as one ingredient, applesauce.  I decided to spice things up a bit and make two flavor fruit leather.  Half of my applesauce, about 2 cups,I mixed in cinnamon.  The other two cups I added 1/3 cup of puréed peaches. (This makes two trays) You can add any puréed fruit or veggies for added flavor or color, be creative!

Start by heating your oven to a low temp, between 170 and 200 degrees.

Using a silpat, line two cookie sheets.  It is necessary to use a silpat.

I poured half of the peach applesauce onto the center of the silpat.

I poured the cinnamon applesauce on either side.  Spread the applesauce into a thin layer  on the entire sheet.

Tap the tray onto the counter to help the applesauce even out and release any air.

Place the trays into the oven and let them go for 6-8 hours.  Be sure they don’t bake too long or you will have apple chips instead!

Finished product.  Use kitchen sheers to cut them into slices or rolls.  Enjoy!
