Recipe Types: Soups and Sauces

Cheese Sauce for Broccoli or Whatever Sounds Good

Just a quick simple and flexible method for cheese sauce, which goes great on just about everything. It’s listed for broccoli, but certainly is ready to blanket other vegetables as well. Enjoy!

Creamy Turnip Soup

This is a simple and very flexible recipe. Leeks can be easily subbed for garlic scapes, shallots, or onion. This soup has a buttery flavor that develops even more if reheated the next day. The stock is quite flexible as well (I made tonight’s batch with ham hock liquid). It’s creamy and sweet buttery qualities would lend themselves to all kinds of toppings, such as tender lobster or crab. Thyme also works as a garnish. Make it your own and enjoy!

Ham Hocks and Collard Greens

I concede that slow cooking collard greens next to a piece of meat for hours is an amazingly delicious way to enjoy them, and totally worth the time involved. A side product is a soup base for other recipes, so it’s like preparing two meals in one! Kale, Chard, or Mustard greens (or any combo therein) can easily stand in for the collards.
