The “Show”- Springdell Summer CSA Pickup #9

Hi everyone, Jess here.  Now that we’re in the thick of August, the shares are growing big! Can you believe this?

It took me quite a while to fit all these goodies into the picture, please keep reading below to see the beautiful flowers from the flower share!

Small shares this week include corn, jumbo squash bombs, heirloom summer squash, bell peppers, squished and classic peaches, beefsteak and cherry tomatoes, and garlic.

  • eggs (please be sure to bring back your egg cartons to the farmstand, so that they may be recycled!)

I have picked just 3 gladiola stems per week these past 3 weeks. They are so long lasting, the vase is now exploding with more and more color each week! The jars of purple and Genovese basil make a beautiful addition to the arrangement. The bouquet sits on my table, where Nan can enjoy it from her seat.

Here are some of the other beautiful flowers in the PYO flower fields!

What a lovely to brighten up the gloomy days!

Here’s a quintessential August CSA recipe, perfect for Meatless Monday! This recipe from Alice Waters is one of my August favorites. Taking the time to salt the eggplant removes any potential bitterness that may effect the overall flavor of the dish. (If you’re looking for fancy, there are many beautiful layered ratatouille versions out there as well.) This version uses a basil boquet that is removed after cooking, so you can get away with using basil that’s starting to bolt, making it a great end-of-season recipe, too!

A quick reminder about Springdell Family night this coming weekend, and the farm to fork dinner at Great Road Kitchen, featuring 6 courses of Springdell farm food! I look forward to checking in with you this week!
