Sweet Turnips and Porterhouse Steak

Another great meal from my Springdell share.  These sweet turnips were really tasty, they gave a veggie I’m not a huge fan of a totally different taste and I really enjoyed them.  Serve them with a Porterhouse steak and really you can’t go wrong.

To start you will need to peel and chop a turnip.  I had a good sized one in my fridge from a past share and it provided quite a bit.

Place all of the turnips into a skillet and cover just the bottoms on the turnips, enough liquid for them to cook in for a while, I used about 2 cups.  Sprinkle a little salt and pepper onto the veggies now too.

Let them cook until they are tender and the liquid has almost totally evaporated.

Add in 1 Tablespoon of white sugar and 1 Tablespoon of brown sugar as well as 2 Tablespoons of butter.  You could also choose to do two Tablespoons of just one type of sugar if you have a preference for one.  Some honey may be nice here too.

The butter and sugar will melt into the dish and form a delicious sticky sweet coating for the turnips.

I used a nice steak from my meat share tonight with herb butter I had in the freezer from those amazing summer herbs. I let it melt right over the steak while it was resting.  Enjoy!
